Field signs on as justice in Touchstone's 'Bench'

Three-time Emmy-winner Kathy Baker is in final negotiations to star in “Murphy’s Dozen,” an hourlong family drama pilot at the WB.

In other casting news, Sally Field has officially signed to play a U.S. Supreme Court Justice in ABC’s “The Bench,” a Touchstone drama pilot (Daily Variety, March 6.)

As for Baker, she’s set to play the matriarch of an Irish-American brood living in New Jersey. Family consists of Baker’s character, her husband and their 12 children.

Skein, a co-production of Warner Bros. Television and New Line Television, is from exec producers Gavin O’Connor (“Tumbleweeds,” “The Bet”) and Tom Chambers.

If “Dozen” is picked up to series, it would mark Baker’s first regular TV gig since “Picket Fences” left the air in 1996.

Baker won the Emmy Award for best actress for her role as Dr. Jill Brock in “Fences” three of the four seasons the show aired on CBS. Thesp was nominated for an Emmy the other season. In 2000, she was nominated again for a guest appearance on “Touched by an Angel.”
