The Flash Star Grant Gustin Speaks Out on Sexual Harassment: This Is Not Okay

“The Flash” star Grant Gustin is the latest CW actor to speak out regarding the sexual harassment scandal surrounding executive producer Andrew Kreisberg.
In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Gustin wrote that “different men again and again, especially in the industry that I work in, treating women as if they are less than, and both physically and emotionally abusing them…is not okay. This can’t become our new normal.”
“Supergirl” actress Melissa Benoist and “Arrow” star Stephen Amell have previously spoken out against Kreisberg and sexual harassment in the industry. Benoist wrote in a tweet that “when people commit crimes or harass others they should always be held accountable — no matter what industry they work in or how much power they wield.” In a Facebook video, Amell said that “if anyone ever feels anything less than 100% safe, or anyone feels as though they aren’t allowed to express themselves and be the person that they are…I’ll stand right beside them, right behind them, I’ll speak on their behalf if need be.”

Multiple people have accused Kreisberg of sexual misconduct, Variety reported on Friday. The accusations include inappropriate touching, asking for massages, kissing women without permission, and a constant stream of sexualized comments about women’s appearances. Kreisberg, who has worked on “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” “Arrow,” and “Legends of Tomorrow,” is currently suspended by Warner Bros. Television Group.

“I can sometimes forget that I live in a world where not everyone has the same rights and privileges as I do. I realize that’s my privilege that makes me forget. Hearing of different men, again and again, especially in the industry that I work in, treating women as if they are less than, and both physically and emotionally abusing them has become a daily occurrence. This is not ok. This can’t become our new normal. These last few weeks I haven’t been sure what to say, so let me just say this. I want to be better. I want to be a better man, a better ally. And I especially want all of the women in my life to know that I hear them, I stand with them, and I support them.
I’m in awe of not just the women who have spoken out these last few weeks, but any woman who has ever done so. I can’t imagine how terrifying it must be and how much courage and strength it takes.
These women are the real superheroes, and they should be treated as such.”
